Carson's Party - finally!

We finally managed to book Carson's party on a day that worked for everyone.  Carson really wanted his party at a place called Rucker's.  It's a crazy place for kids to play arcade type games for coupons.  They have to save up 100's of coupons to get a decent prize but they like it.  I was not thrilled about having to work the party around soccer as the cheap nights are of course during the week.  Fridays it is $3 more per child.  Happily, I found a coupon - I know, hard to imagine, isn't it?  Anyway, we ended up getting the party for half price.  It included 2 pieces of pizza for each child, all the pop they could drink and 40 tokens each for the games.
Carson picked out his cake at Costco - he wanted fishing!

Presents!

The boys saved up all their coupons and Carson promised Jay that he would get him an Angry Birds stuffy.  It took all night, in addition to the bonus 1000 coupons for the birthday boy and 200 bonus coupons each for Jay and Nathan, plus the coupons that they won on the games to get the red Angry Bird bird.  Everyone went home happy.

Tattoos...

The boys love putting on the temporary tattoos.  Nathan found a sheet of Marvel Heroes and rather than picking one hero, he put the entire sheet on his stomach.  They lasted for about 2 weeks!
Jay, on the other hand, chose to put a tattoo on his head, right beside the bruise that remained from his trip over the banister to the floor.  He rubbed it so it only lasted 1/2 a day.  Unfortunately it was half off and people thought it was a bruise, just adding to his displeasure with people asking him about his bruise!

The strawberry baby...

Nathan was eating a nice large strawberry and when he bit deep into it, he wandered over to me and said, "Look, I found the strawberry's baby!"
In the centre of the picture is the baby, it was growing inside the Mama, according to Nathan.
I laughed and we took a picture.  Then he ate the baby.

Mother's Day 2012

Jay was very proud of his Mother's Day card from school.  It was really cute, a little tea cup that opened  up and then there was some herbal tea inside.  Jay was excited to drink tea with me.

Carson turns 7...

Yesterday was Carson's birthday.  It's just not the same when it happens on a school day.  He got up, we said Happy Birthday.  He went to school.  (Although he did take a cupcake cake that I made).  He came home from school and did his homework.  Then we went for supper at The Hat Restaurant for some so-so Chinese food -it's a buffet.  What kid doesn't like a buffet?
While at dinner this was one of the conversations:  Carson and Jay style.
Carson started:  "Knock, Knock... "
Who's there?  responds Jay, dutifully.
"Birthday boy..."
Birthday boy who?
"Carson Imes!" (must be said with a huge grin on your face!)
I asked him where he got it from and he proudly replied: "I made it up myself!"

After dinner we went home and had presents.  Nathan told Carson what they all were before or as he was opening them, with the exception of the stuff from other people.
Carson got some US money for our trip in November.

Then it was time for soccer.  We were supposed to have cake after soccer but Carson didn't want any so we didn't have any.  Maybe tonight.  We are still planning his party with his friends.

Weekend in Calgary

The boys and I went to Calgary for the first weekend in May.  It was uncle Jason's birthday on the 3rd and I had a conference on the 4th so we headed up after the spring carnival at the school.  On the Saturday night, Uncle Jason treated us all to a Calgary Roughnecks lacrosse game.

The boys were trying to attract attention and get a free lacrosse ball.

The warm-up.
Apparently the excitement was too much for Nathan.
He was a limp rag in Uncle Jason's arms!

Jason would prop Nathan up periodically but he would fade again quickly.

When the Roughnecks would score, Jason would shake Nathan's arm in time to the music.

Carson was getting right in to the game.  Like the boys behind us, he started taking his shirt off and swinging it around his head every time the Roughnecks scored.
Each of the boys got a treat.  Jay chose cotton candy.

He obviously enjoyed it.

Jay asked me to take a picture of his tongue.

The Cake Walk winners..

It was spring carnival at the school on May 3.  The boys favorite event is the cake walk.  For 4 tokens ($1) you get a chance to win a cake.  Think musical chair with numbers on the floor.  If after the music stops they pick your number from the bucket, you win a cake.  Carson was so proud of his cake last year and he won again this year.  He wanted another cake with strawberries and this is what he choose.
Clarke also won a cake in the cake walk this year and this is what Jay choose on his behalf.

Nathan preferred a cake with Woody, from Toy Story on it.  We headed for Calgary right after the carnival.  Clarke was glad we were going so he wouldn't be tempted to eat any of the cake.  Seeing as the 3rd was Uncle Jason's birthday and the 8th is Carson's, after we took until Jason for dinner on the 4th, we went back to Grandma & Grandpa's for cake.  A piece from each cake for everyone.
