Christmas Day - last day in Hawaii and the trip home

It's hard to believe that 2 weeks have passed by.  It has seemed to be so quick.  The boys had gone to bed late on Christmas and slept in.  Waiting for them were the necklaces with their names in Hawaiian as well as flashlights from ABC that had Hawaiian motifs and some candy.  We had 'leftovers' for breakfast and the boys wanted to go to the pool rather than the beach.  The view from the patio of the pool looked towards Diamond Head.

The view towards the ocean.

Carmen sent us a picture of Rusty, supposedly looking sad, in front of the fireplace, missing us.

The view from the lounge chair.
Nathan asked for Cup of Noodles to eat on the place ride back to Canada.  So, on Christmas morning after packing up, we went to the ABC and bought him some Cup of Noodles.  He loved it and it turns out it was a good $1 choice of food for him as he didn't like the options on the plane.

We were all quite sad to come home.  We planned on buying some Leonard's malasadas but they were closed.  The down side to travelling home on Christmas day!  We know for next time though!  We arrived back in Canada and had to sit on the tarmac in Calgary for a bit and then the shuttle to the airport was full so it was nearly 2 before we got to the hotel to sleep.  The one good thing was that the boys were tired and slept almost immediately!

Aulani - the Disney Resort December 12, 2015

Thanks to the time difference, we were up early and went for a walk to the beach.  This is the view from the lounge chair that I took on the iPhone as we reserved our front row seats.  We spent the whole day at the beach and the boys are loving it.
Stitch and the boys!
We have run in to Mickey and Chip and Dale so far.  We were going to see Goofy as well as Minnie Mouse and Stitch but the boys preferred to stay at the beach!  There is a wooden Stitch though and the boys rub his nose or feet every time we go by him!  He is right by Aunty's Beach House so they see him a couple of times per day.

Hawaii Bound - December 11, 2015

We had the boys up at 5:15am to get ready for our flight.  We grabbed bag lunches from the hotel and hopped on the shuttle bus to head to the airport.  We made it through check in and customs with relatively little effort.  Carson lost his book as he didn't want to carry a bag, and he is sure it was left at check in!  After a short delay , we were finally able to board at about 8:50am (we were supposed to leave at 8:25)
Walking down to the plane.  A little bit excited!
Westjet leased the plane, and the crew from Omni Air International as this was an inaugural flight and they didn't have a plane yet to fly the route.  The crew was based out of Atlanta, Georgia!  Not quite the planes that we have been used to flying with Westjet.  It didn't help either that they announced that some of the delay was the lack of running water in the bathrooms on the plane and they were trying to get that fixed for the 6.5hour flight!  In the end they got everything functioning and the flight was not too bad.  There was a lovely gentleman though who tore his right arm open on the ashtray that was in the bathroom.  He thought it was a superficial wound but it bleed through the bandage they gave him and 2 hours later he was still pouring!  I wanted to suture him but the airline wouldn't let me and insisted that they have paramedics meet him at the airport in Honolulu.  Poor guy.  I stressed to him that he really needed stitches so hopefully he did get them after arrival.  We last saw him talking with the paramedics.  They had not yet undone the bandage that Clarke and I put on.
Nathan thought the old technology of the plane was awesome.  I will admit that it didn't really make me feel too excited!

The weather was just starting to turn bad as we were leaving.  It has been a very mild winter so far for us in Medicine Hat, and Calgary as well.  We are still looking forward to the 30 degrees promised to us in Honolulu!
A quick glance at the weather we were leaving!

We landed in Honolulu and picked up our rental vehicle.  We made it out to Aulani without too many issues, although the traffic was a little crazy as we got closer to the west side of the Island.  The initial  impression of the resort was: WOW!  I have pictures to come from the better camera.

The Mickey Mouse waiting for us on the bed in our condo at Aulani.
We needed to go get some groceries, so even though the boys wanted to run to the pools right away, we dragged them grocery shopping!  There is a Costco 3 miles away so we headed there.  We found pineapple for $2.35!  We also found Hawaiian shirts and swim shorts for Clarke.  We had supper there and then stopped by Target for the little items that Costco doesn't carry.  Unfortunately, no one warned us of the horrible traffic that exists out here, essentially from 3-7pm, according to one of the staff members.  It took us over 45 minutes to drive back to the resort!  We had the bellman take the groceries up and we grabbed our key cards and went for a short swim before the pools closed at 8pm. We pointed out to the boys that it was 11pm at home and sent them to bed with the plan of a quiet day at the resort on Saturday.

Blood Moon - September 27, 2015

We took the boys outside and had them watch the eclipse.  Unfortunately we didn't have the right camera, or view point to get a good shot.  The boys were a little bored, and then I was called in to work!   Here are a couple of shots that friends, and friends of friends took.
This photo was taken from Sandy Beach, in Calgary.

Cochrane Rodeo - the boys first try at wild pony racing...

It was a little mucky at the rodeo grounds!  So much for a nice September long weekend!  I have shots from 3 different cameras and somehow they never want to line up properly!  Here goes:

Grandma took this video for us from the stands.  You'll have to look close but you get the idea.  They did it!
